Duration: 1 year renewable

Location: the Regional Resource Mobilisation Manager may be based in one of Terre des hommes offices in the Region (Budapest preferably but Tirana, Bucharest, Chisinau or Pristina are also possible) with frequent travel in Central and Eastern Europe.

Applicant must be in possession of a valid work permit to work and reside in one of Terre des hommes locations (Budapest, Bucharest, Chisinau, Kiev, Tirana or Pristina).

General conditions: full-time contract with conditions applicable to Managers in local salary scale.  Net per month may vary between 1500-1700 EUR per month depending on location, skills and experience. Local benefits include local social security and medical insurance.

Background:

Terre des hommes Foundation, a member of the International Federation Terre des hommes, is the largest international child right NGO in Switzerland established over 50 years ago. We operate in 36 countries with over 100 projects of development aid and emergency impacting over 2 million beneficiaries. We employ 1,500 people, including 130 based at our headquarters in Lausanne. Our direct assistance projects, strengthening systems and advocacy activities are primarily focused in the areas of maternal and child health and child protection.

In Europe, Tdh intervenes directly or indirectly in 22 countries, relying on teams based in Budapest (where the regional office is located), Albania, Greece, Kosovo, Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine.

Job Description

Tdh in Europe has been reorganized in line with its new regionalization strategy which foresees the development of a regional hub operated from Budapest and the establishment of an innovative programmatic approach.

The Regional Resource Mobilisation Manager will exercise a key fundraising leadership role within the regional hub. This position will take the lead in fundraising activities within the region and across the wider organisation. S/he will lead and support the development of a culture of fundraising, while using their expertise to develop proposals and secure funding for Tdh.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead and actively promote a fundraising culture in the region: develop and deliver internal communications in support of resource mobilization strategy implementation within Europe.
  • Develop processes and systems to ensure that all fundraisers function coherently and contribute effectively to resource mobilization goals
  • Develop fundraising proposals either through grant-writing directly, management of grant-writers (consultants) and/or team mobilization
  • Act as a technical advisor and/or manager for collaborative proposal development;
  • Work with country and regional programme staff and regional managers to support and leverage their donor representation, donor cultivation, relationship building, and donor intelligence gathering;
  • Provide guidance, coaching and training to country programme staff on donor cultivation (building relationships), gathering donor intelligence, building visibility, and pre-positioning for funding opportunities;
  • Facilitate information management, collecting, disseminating, and centralizing fundraising information;
  • Act as a repository for donor intelligence, proposals, analytics, supporting documentation, and experiences from the region;
  • Collect and disseminate information, making representations and proposals more consistent;
  • Lead the Learning Group to facilitate cross-fertilization between country programmes in the region.
  • Coordinate and liaise with the Director of Institutional Partnerships based in the HQ as well as Philanthropy Department
  • As senior manager, participate in the life of the Regional Office, as necessary
  • Undertake special projects in support of the resource mobilization strategy.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • University degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in political science, international relations, business or public administration, marketing, law, economics, development or humanitarian studies or a related discipline; a first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible and relevant experience, if possible in a context of resource mobilization, including in a supervisory capacity. Experience in planning and monitoring progress towards set goals and exposure to budget preparation.
  • A successful track record with institutional donors such as EU, Europe Aid, SDC, DFID, ECHO, UNICEF, other UN agencies.
  • Extensive experience in proposal writing and donor relationship management;
  • Experience of working in a highly collaborative environment with minimal direct supervision in a complex regional setting;
  • Ability to travel regionally
  • Well-honed leadership skills, along with facilitation, networking and advocacy skills;
  • Strong planning and organizational skills;
  • A commitment to excellence, respect for donor rules & attention to detail;
  • Ability to uphold high standards and punctuality under pressure.

Language Skills:

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. Fully proficient in writing and editing.
  • Competency in an eastern European language is a desirable asset but not a requirement.
