Open Society’s Grassroots and Parent Activism in Education grant is open to Hungarian civil society organizations and informal groups working to improve educational opportunities for marginalized children.

This call seeks to support grassroots-level initiatives which address education challenges and their impacts, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, with particular attention on strengthening community-level participation and engaging parents.

Eligibility Criteria

We invite applications from organizations and informal groups which: 

  • work to address educational equity challenges of vulnerable school and pre-school age children from disadvantaged backgrounds or who have unique educational needs
  • are of a not-for-profit character if established as a legal entity; and have a non-profit public benefit purpose, if applying as an informal group
  • build on the grassroots activism of local stakeholders those at the community level
  • implement project activities in Hungary

Guidelines

Organizations and informal groups can apply for up to $20,000 for a period of 12 months, with eligible expenses starting from September 2020. Please note that the start date should take place in 2020 and maximum grant size is $20,000. Please refer to the guidelines for details concerning selection criteria and application process instructions.

Before starting the submission process, please read the detailed call for proposals documents and make certain that you have the correct documentation ready. Do not submit the proposal form or budget in PDF format (use editable Excel and Word file formats).

The deadline for submitting applications is June 25, 2020 (5:00 p.m., CET).

Submissions should be made via the Open Society Foundations Grant Portal.

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Project proposals should be submitted in English using the application form and budget template available in the Download Files section. Please note that proposals will be judged on the quality of the proposals against the evaluation criteria, outlined in the attached description of the call. They will not be judged on English proficiency. For support with English translation, please see the guidelines. Successful applicants will be notified by July 31.
